Just give it all away man. Free yourself from yourself. What better time than now? It is kind of funny that a song by the Red Hot Chili Peppers had it right. Think about it for a moment, with the song "Give it away" released back in 1991 "Give It Away" is centered on the philosophy of selflessness and altruistic behavior, and at this time of year there are lots of needs out there from the need of Bell Ringers for the Salvation Army, to non-perishable food items for the Hunger Task Force, to the La Crosse Jaycees Toys for Tots which has their toy drive going on today until 6pm at the La Crosse Center, to the needs of your neighbors and your church. Kind of weird that a song from the 90’s gives so much, back to more lyrics “Reeling with the feeling don't stop continue” from reaching into your pocket for change to the time shared to help a child, to holding a door for a stranger at the mall. I think we get out of life what we give, so “send a smile and show you care. Red Hot Chili Peppers - "Give It Away"

Daily Dose of BS Aug 24 didnt win the lottery
Imagine my surprise this morning when I didn’t win the lottery. I am not much of a lottery player and I thought that the guys that never plays wins, sure- I throw in my two bucks every time that work has a buy, just so I am not left out when everyone else gets to quit. But yesterday I did something that I have only done a handful of times in my life, I bought 6 lottery tickets. The last time I bought tickets I dreamt that I won the lottery, I didn’t dream that last night. In the past when my family and I talked about the lottery and if we won we talked of moving, I don’t think we would move out of the area, I love it here it is after all God’s Country. A lot of people say that they wouldn’t quit their jobs, I am not sure I buy that one, but then I didn’t win and neither did you, so off to work.

Daily Dose of BS May 8 leftovers
I know some people who don’t eat leftovers, I on the other hand like leftovers, no meal planning and a quick grab and heat meal on a busy day. In our house hold there are 5 of us living there and everyone has a different schedule. We try to get together and have family meals as often as we can, and that is at least 1x a week, the past week however was a bit different, I don’t think that we all sat down and had a meal together at all. Weird how some of the things that you used to do every day and things that you have taken for granted have slip from the grasps of your fingertips, not for lack of trying but because we are busy being busy. With one of our children getting ready to embark on the next stage of his life graduating from high school later this month, and the twins starting drivers ed, I guess onward and upward. If your life is changing, and I know that it is because our lives always change, take the time to slow it down, and think back to and enjoy the memories you had, but don’t think of them as leftovers but chapters of your life.

Daily Dose of BS June 13
Have ya ever broken a mirror, how about, spilled salt,
sneezed 3 times, opened an umbrella in the house? I am guessing unless you have lived in a
padded box you have done one or all of these supposed bringers of bad luck. I had the ultimate BS happen last night, a
bird dropped a big old load of BS on my head and shoulder. If you are wondering what BS stands for in
this case it stands for Bird Schmidt.
Right on my head and this isn’t the first time that this has happened to
me. I was riding my motorcycle on Father’s
Day 1995, 3 days before my oldest was born when a bird let loose all over my
head, face and glasses; thank goodness I was close to my destination. I am in a long line of Schmidt’s that have
been target practice for our winged friends, I remember when I was a kid my Dad
told us of a day when he was watching his Dad take a nap on a hammock and
Grandpa Schmidt slept with his mouth open, needless to say my Dad saw some awesome
maneuvering from the bird and splat right into the open target, I guess Grandpa
just moved his mouth a few times and didn’t wake, I asked Dad if he told him,
he said no way. Back to trying to clean up my little mess, I
was at the Shelby ball diamonds last night to watch my daughters softball game
and the only have the hand dryer there so I was grabbing toilet paper to help
with the cleanup I might add that it only came off one sheet at a time, that’s a
whole other Daily Dose. I was able to
clean up to the best of my ability, I am thankful that there is no smell. BTW a great friend of mine told me that
getting splattered on by a bird was good luck, yea good luck that cows don’t fly.
